Public Works Department - Mechanic
The City of Cherryville is seeking a skilled and dedicated Mechanic to join our Public Works team. This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the city’s fleet of vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing high-quality service for city operations.
Key Responsibilities:

Fleet Maintenance & Repair:
Perform regular maintenance, inspections, and repairs on the City of Cherryville's fleet of vehicles, including trucks, heavy equipment, and specialized machinery. -
Diagnose Mechanical Issues:
Identify mechanical problems, conduct thorough inspections, and troubleshoot issues to ensure timely and effective repairs. -
Preventive Maintenance:
Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance to extend the lifespan of the fleet, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake repairs, and engine diagnostics. -
Equipment Maintenance:
Service and repair city-owned equipment such as street sweepers, snowplows, -
backhoes, and other public works machinery.

Record Keeping & Documentation:
Maintain accurate and detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, labor hours, and vehicle performance data. -
Collaboration & Teamwork:
Work closely with the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor and other city departments to coordinate vehicle repairs and ensure equipment readiness for various public works projects. -
Safety & Compliance:
Adhere to all safety regulations, environmental guidelines, and city policies during maintenance and repair work. Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with local, state, and federal standards. -
Emergency Repairs:
Respond to emergency repair requests as needed, ensuring minimal downtime of city vehicles and equipment.
Qualifications:

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. -
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, with hands-on experience working on heavy equipment and fleet vehicles.
Previous experience working with municipal fleets or in a public works environment is an asset. -
Certifications & Skills:
Valid driver's license (Class A or B preferred).
ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification is an advantage.
Knowledge of diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
Ability to operate and maintain various types of machinery, power tools, and vehicles.
Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Capable of working in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, and snow.

Ability to perform manual labor, including bending, squatting, and standing for extended periods.

Comfortable working in confined spaces or around moving machinery.
Working Conditions:

Full-time position, with occasional overtime required for emergency repairs or during peak seasons.

Work will be performed in both a workshop setting and at various city locations.

May be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays in response to emergency situations or inclement weather.

Police Officer Position
The City of Cherryville Police Department is accepting applications for full-time police officer. Duties include Patrolling; Investigating crimes; Traffic control; Apprehending suspects; Operating a patrol vehicle or walking to observe for violations, suspicious activities or persons, and disturbances of law and order; Responding to radio dispatches and answering calls and complaints; Assisting citizens by supplying information or advise; Serves warrants and makes arrests, testifies in court; Provides police escorts, investigates automobile collisions; Maintains records and prepares detailed reports; Serves as dispatcher when assigned; Performs related task as required
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina, an acceptable driving history, and a Basic Law Enforcement Certificate issued by the State of North Carolina.
