Public Works Director – Cherryville, NC, POP. 6,078.

The City of Cherryville is accepting applications for a public works director. The public works director is responsible for various administrative and managerial duties. The city public works director monitors and oversees the physical facilities of the City of Cherryville. The public works director works under the supervision of the city manager. One of the essential duties of a public works director is the ability to create and plan long-term programs that will develop the growth of a community. In addition, the public works director is also responsible for analyzing and assessing proposals of the public work staff.

 

The public works director should also evaluate the target proposals for citywide services of public works nature, and present the top plans to designated department heads for consideration and then supervise and direct his staff to work on the chosen projects.

The public works director is responsible for all personnel within a public works department including, but not limited to day-to-day maintenance of the City’s infrastructure services such as electrical maintenance and distribution, sewer maintenance and facility operation, sanitation, street maintenance, city storm and sanitary sewer operations, and emergency response for snow and ice, flood, severe weather mitigation. Must be versed in a wide range of city services as related to public works and the functions of citywide service. Three to five years’ experience in an administrative assistant’s role.

A high school diploma or GED are minimum requirements for the public works director.  Desired educational requirements are an associate's degree or professional certificate levels, with demonstrated skills in managing a full service public works department in a municipal work environment.

Seasonal Leaf Collection Worker

The City of Cherryville will be accepting applications for two (2) seasonal leaf collection workers. Applications are available at the Public Works Office and will be accepted thru September 30, 2022. Applicants will be required to work 40 hours a week from October 1, until February 1, removing loose piles of leaves around town with a collection truck. Hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday thru Friday. Driver’s license required. Applicant will be required to work outside in all weather conditions and must be able to pick up and move at least 50 lbs. Police Officer Position 

The City of Cherryville Police Department is accepting applications for full time police officer. Duties include, Patrolling; Investigating crimes; Traffic control; Apprehending suspects; Operating a patrol vehicle or walking to observe for violations, suspicious activities or persons and disturbances of law and order; Responding to radio dispatches and answers calls and complaints; Assist citizens by supplying information or advise; Serves warrants and makes arrests, testifies in court; Provides police escorts, investigates automobile collisions; Maintains records and prepares detailed reports; Serves as dispatcher when assigned; Performs related task as required

 

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina, an acceptable driving history, and a Basic Law Enforcement Certificate issued by the State of North Carolina.

Utility Line Maintenance Mechanic II - Water and Sewer Division

 The City of Cherryville will be accepting applications for the position of Line Maintenance Mechanic Level II for the Water and Sewer Utility. Applicant must have a knowledge and ability to operate heavy equipment such as Back-Hoe, Loader, Dump Truck, Jack Hammer, Ect. Job requires employee to be on call after training which would include after hours and week-end work on a regular basis. Employee would be required to have knowledge in the repair, replacement of all water and sewer mains and all service lines and pump stations. Must have or be able to obtain a CDL Drivers License within six months. State Certifications in Distribution and Collections is preferred or will have to be certified within one year of hiring date. Sanitation Driver

The City of Cherryville will be accepting applications for the position of Sanitation Maintenance Mechanic Level II for the

Cherryville Sanitation Department (Truck Driver). Applicant must have a knowledge of heavy equipment such as Sanitation Trucks, Back-Hoe, Loader, Dump Truck, Ect. Heavy Equipment operator preferred. Job requires employee to perform after hours and week­end work at times. Employee would be required to have knowledge and operation of Sanitation Trucks and able to run proper routes. Must have a CDL Drivers License.
